With the help of knowledge he can distinguish
between the virtue and the vice, righteousness
and unrighteousness, truth and falsehood, life
and death, and so on. The wise man knows
that distress is hidden behind all the enjoyable
things in the world. They are pleasant as long
as we enjoy them. In the consequence, they
cause suffering. We mistake the inanimate for
the animate, unhappiness for happiness,
transient for permanent and the body for soul.
It is sheer ignorance. Gita awakens us to
eliminate ignorance, and inertia, and open our
eyes of knowledge. We have slept for long
and it is time that we woke up. We have
enjoyed the world too much. Now we think of
bidding it goodbye. So far we have looked at
the world as an object of enjoyment; now we
look at it as an object of abandonment.
