The state of renunciation or self-denial
leads the mind towards the perception of truth.
This results in interest being aroused in the
sacred study (study of the Vedas), good
company, mental training, bhakti, praying etc.
Self-denial is instrumental to getting away from
the world and consequently getting inclined
towards God. The more the distance of mind
from the superficial attractions, desires,
passions and pleasures, the more calm,
focussed, taciturn and devoted to worship of
God it becomes. The more the mind's
indulgence with the worldly pleasures, the
more unsteady, unquiet, unsatisfied and
wicked it would be. The mind is simply
unstoppable. The market today is full of
varieties of consumer goods of every
