1. The Supreme Spirit (God) alone existed (with infinite
knowledge and power of action) before the creation of the uni-
verse; no one else existed with desire (for such creation). He
desired to create worlds (earth, moon, sun, stars etc.).

2. God then createi all these worlds of
ambha, marichi,
mara
and
apah,
explained as follows :—ethereal waters are
called
ambha,
ethereal space of heavenly (shining) bodies (sun,
moon, stars etc.,) is called
marichi,
earth is called
mara
and
lowers waters of earth are called
apah.
