NINE UPANISHAL
1. May we (both pupil and teacher) together attain glory
and may we together obtain the radiance of devotion to God
(i.e., holiness). For this purpose, we shall explain the Upnishad
(modes of God's worship) which may be divided broadly into
five
Sanhitas
(modes of communication with God), viz. to
worship God by viewing Him as the cause of the earth, the
moon and other wonderful planets, (2) as the cause of the sun
and other luminous bodies, (3) as the cause of all the wonder-
ful sciences, (4) as the cause of the progeny, i.e., birth of all
beings and (5) as the cause of wonderful bodies of various
beings. These are known as five
Mahasanhitas

(2) Of the first Sanhita, called
Adhiloka,
the earth is the
first form; the heavens are the second
form; other is the
link between the said two; air is joint
of the linking. So far

(3) In the second sanhita,
viz.,
adhiyotish
(lumonous obje-
cts), fire is the first form, sun is second (latter) form, while
water is the linking. This explains the
