To observe the traditions of the family, race, society
and the country, is called good conduct or civilisation.
Manu has written about this in detail:-
1. Respect the elders. Bow down with folded hands. Walk
on their left. Serve the elders. Manu says that with the
service of elders one gets long life, wisdom, fame and
increase in strength. Respect to elders also helps in
proper control in families.
2. When a person comes to meet you, welcome him with
a smile. Offer him a seat and when he leaves, then say
'God bless you', your journey should be comfortable
and auspicious God take care of you.
At the time of meeting and separation, bow down to
the parents, teacher etc. with folded hands taken to
the forehead. Where there is more love, embrace one
another.
3. Whenever you go to another home to meet somebody,
then do not go in without intimation. Do not enter a
room at once with opening of the door, without
knocking or taking permission, even in one's own
house. Be brief on essential conversation. Do not stay
without reason. If the host wants, you can stay further.
On your own part, take leave as early as possible.
4. Keep the elder on your right side while sitting or
walking. Get seated on the right side, a woman elder
or younger just as the mother, sister or daughter. To
