ABOUT GURU DATTA'S WRITINGS
T
o any student of spirituality, Pandit Guru Datta Vidyarthi is
indispensable. He is one of the few modern scholars who have
properly grasped the essence of the ancient Indian wisdom. He is
original as well as authentic in his interpretations of the Vedas. He
is therefore, a writer whose appeal transcends the barriers of
religious identity. For all those who are in the search of a higher
meaning, his writings are invaluable for they inculcate in the reader,
a sense of nobility that takes the Indian concept of
Dharma
beyond
the meaning of its closest English parallel, religion.
At a time when Indian Gurus have become a best selling commodity
world wide and clones of the ancient Rishis continue to chum out
misleading concepts in the name of Indian philosophy, Guru Datta
remains by and large unknown and unsung. But here is a magnificent
teacher who so effortlessly unlocks the treasures of Vedic wisdom
for the modern man. Written over a century ago, the essays by Guru
Datta Vidyarthi only grow in their relevance as man continues to

a minuscule of what his genius had to offer. Yet, every word that he
wrote is aglow with the radiance of his dazzling intellect.
Despite his other engagements, writing always remained a priority
with him. He began to pen articles, right from his days as a student.
Initially, these were published in R. C. Berry's journal,
The Anja.
Later his writings graced
The Regenerator of Aryavarta, Arya Patrika
and
Vedic Magazine.
His articles were always well researched,
philosophical and classical. His motto was
Sahjam, Shivam, Sundaram.
Brevity was the hallmark of his writings. He was a rare genius and
his writing unique. His expositions of the
Veda mantras
and the
commentaries on
Upanishads
have such brilliance as is beyond the
normal human intellect. They make one feel as if
