mysteries were unfolding themselves before a
Rishi.
And in the realm
of logic, when he reasons out a philosophical riddle, he emerges as
the
unparalleled
undisputed successor of Rishi Dayananda's tradition.
In fact, no one matches him in his grasp and exposition of Rishi's
thought. In the annals of Arya Samajist literature in English, Guru
Datta's writings have no equal.
In 1888, some of Panditji's early articles came out in the form of
books. The details of his available literature are as follows:
The Terminology of the Vedas
This well known book by Guru Datta was published on 12th
February,1888. Actually, this essay had earlier been carried by
Arya
Patrika
in its first year's fourth, seventh, fourteenth and seventeenth
issues on 11th July, 1st August, 19th September and 10th October,
1885 respectively. In this essay, Panditji had declared as faulty and
incomplete, the interpretation of Vedic terms by Indian scholars
like Mahidhara, Ravana, Sayana and western scholars like Max
Muller. He, according to the
Niruktakara
has determined the Vedic terms
as
yaugic
and not as
rurhi.
Guru Datta gratefully dedicated the book to Rishi Dayananda with
the following words:
"To the memory of
the only
Vedic Scholar of his time
Swami Dayananda Saraswati, by
his sincere and devoted
admirer, the author, Guru Datta Vidyarthi"
The choice of words reflects his deepest emotions. Lala Lajpat Rai
notes about his devotion to the
Rishi:
"I
can affirm from personal
knowledge that this devotion was exceptional in the whole
constitution of the Arya Samaj. The more Guru Datta Vidyarthi
studied Dayananda, the more he became devoted to the gifted
Reformer. His was not a blind devotion, but was as intelligent as it
was strong."
The Terminology of the Vedas and the European Scholars
In 1888, Guru Datta wrote another essay titled, 'The Terminology
of the Vedas and the European Scholars'. It was the essay second in
this series and was published in Vedic Magazine's second and third
issues in August and September in 1889. Both the essays propound
the true Aryan methodology of
Veda-Bhashya
and lay bare the
