Shrimad Dayanand Kanya Gurukul Mahavidyalaya Chotipura

(Arsh Gurukul)

Social service and humanity has been in the blood of Munshi family of Chotipura. Shri Aman Singh was the first known Saint from this family, his only son Nihaal Singh was a highly educated person of Gandhi\'s period. By vertue of his qualification and his role in the community people called him Munshi Ji. He was offered many goverment jobs by British but refused all to serve as a freedom fighter in Gandhi Ji\'s movement. He participated in Hydrabad Satyagrah and went to the jail for some period. His son Shri Hargovind was the follower of Swami Dayanand and read Satyarth Prakash many times. By inspiration from Swami Ji he sent his daughter Sumedha to Gurukul Narela (Delhi) for the studies. Education for women was a prime agenda in Swami Dayanand\'s movement, so was for Hargovind Singh. Establishing an educational institution for girls was the aim for his life. It came to a reality when his daughter Dr Sumedha after completing her studies opted to devote her life for humanity (educating the girls). Educating a girl means educating two families, one her parent\'s and the other where she will be going after marriage. It was the 6th of March, 1988 when this gurukul made a modest beginning in the vicinity of a tiny hamlet, Chotipura, which falls in the district of Moradabad in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Initially, Shri Hargovind Singh Ji donated 10 Bighas of land for this institution. Besides sparing land, he also deputed his most competent and learned daughter, Dr. Sumedha, the present principal, to run this center of learning. It was indeed an auspicious beginning, altruistically inspired. Dr. Sumedha sought the help of her schoolmate, Dr. Sukama, an equally insightful and erudite lady. This duo, taking a vow of life-long celibacy, has since been working ceaselessly with a rare missionary zeal. They are wedded to the ideals of Vedic culture and it’s propagation throughout the country. In the begining it was a challenge to have the basic infrastructure in-place for even to start a small school. Shri Chetan Swarup Arya son of Hargovind Singh was the first who donated the first classroom for the school, 2nd one came from the community. Since then there has not been a looking back. The great dedication of the two ladies for a noble cause has been successfully conviencing the community as well as the industrial houses to provide their support to meet all finnacial needs. The new generation of the family is inspired by the vision of their ancestors and committed to fulfill the same. Chetan Swarup Arya\'s son Ved Arya a techie by profession has a great interest and dedication towards helping Gurukul in achiving it\'s goals. The gurukul is now an independent body (a non-profit organization) registered under the \"Societies Registration Act 1860\" and progressing steadily as a result of the rare dedication of the founding ladies, Dr. Sumedha and Dr. Sukama, and the exemplary co-operation of highly competent teachers, who happen to be the alumni of this very gurukul. Gurukul Chotipura is located 2KM north of Rajabpur, which is 115 KM east of Delhi and 45 KM west of Moradabad on Delhi-Moradabad Highway (NH24).
